Malta: find more

Sited in the middle of the Mediterranean and home to diverse European cultures which have contributed to building up an immense heritage, Malta bears the traces of more than 7000 centuries of history to be discovered.  Malta’s history is marked by conquests and invasions. Its strategic position in the Mediterranean between Europe and Africa, halfway between the ancient Pillars of Hercules in Gibraltrar and the Middle East, has made it a perfect stronghold for many conquerors, including: the Phoenicians, the Romans, the Arabs, the Angelins, the Aragonese, the Italians and the English. The objective of any of these peoples has always been the same: the control of the Mediterranean.
Malta’s islands have been described as a huge outdoor museum. What makes them unique is that a very large part of their past is still visible today. When you are there you may dip into their mysterious prehistory,  follow St. Paul’s steps or admire the scenery where St. John’s Knights  fought for Christianity. You may spend your time visiting the most important towns and resorts, as Birkirkara, Sliema, Qormi, Hamrun and Medina, the ancient capital, as well as get lost in a number of archaeological sites as the Megalithic Temples (including Ggantija, the oldest temple with no foundations in the world),  St. Paul’s crypt, St. Agata’s catacomb, the interesting sites of the Knights of Malta , Fort St.Angelo and Fort Rinella (where the biggest gun of the world is kept).

Gozo is said to be the legendary Calypso’s isle referred to in Homer’s  Odyssey. Its wild territory and spectacular coastline feature some of the best corners to enjoy wonderful walks and unforgettable diving experiences in a territory surrounded by wild Nature and endowed with a calm atmosphere - the isle is in fact mostly inhabited by fishers and farmers. Numerous wonderful beaches are there to be enjoyed, the most spectacular is Dwejra, lying west of the isle, and offering a unique natural landscape - the Blue Window, a rocky slab suspended over the sea,  below the enchanting Blue Hole is one of the most astonishing view.
Comino, smaller and wilder than Gozo, is a paradise for lovers of snorkelling, windsurfing and diving. The isle of the Blue Lagoon offers romantic sailing tours and the possibility of swimming across its blue waters. Pedestrianized and light-hearted, Comino is a place where to find a shelter all around the year.
For lovers of night life, the ideal place to have fun after a day of sightseeing, is undoubtedly Paceville, in St Julians’s district, a few miles from La Valletta. The area provides a wide range of clubs and cafès all intertwined to one another and capable of meeting the musical requirements of a very diverse Clientele. The clubs are located in a central area always crowded with people especially during the week-end or summer time. The energy you feel there is just incredible. There is a chance for everybody: R & B, hip-hop, salsa bar, alternative rock bar. Other types of entertainment may however be experienced there such as the largest cinema of Malta, a bowling track, cafès and sport centres. Not to mention Malta’s casino just a few miles away from discos but close to grand hotels.
This fantastic isle offers entertainment and events for everybody: not to be missed Nadur’s carneval in Gozo or a show at Manoel National Theater, the third oldest theatre of Europe and seat of Malta’s phylarmonic orchestra, La Valletta’s parade and a number of entertainment parks for kids.

The capital, La Valletta, surrounded by perfectly preserved walls dating back to the fifteenth century, is easy to be visited on foot. It normally hosts comedies and concerts, exhibitions and  street performances. Among the main Museums to be visited there are the Archeological Museum of La Valletta keeping an exceptional collection of prehistoric artefacts, Fort St. Elm War Museum also featuring a Sunday parade oh historical costumes, the Palace of the Great Master and St. John’s Cathedral preserving some of the most esteemed masterpieces of baroque art in Europe.
Malta among its most precious treasures includes the Sister islands of Gozo and Comino. Gozo is the larger, Comino the smaller (3,5 sqkm), a  true paradise if you are searching for a fabulous Caribbean-like sea , especially in summer.
